Supporting the A361 HGV Campaign

Letter to the Central Somerset Gazette from Lindsay MacDougall

I am writing to correct the perception given in last week’s paper that the A361 Ban the HGVs campaign (otherwise known as Bypass Glastonbury) has not been supported by the Green Party locally (“Greens are no-go”, 26th March).

West Mendip Green Party is fully behind my various and continuing efforts to work with Katarina Sonntag who is leading the campaign.

I recently spent two-and-a-quarter hours between 6.15 am and 9 am in the diesel fumes of the A361 in Glastonbury where there averages one HGV every minute, very often heavy enough to shake the foundations.

I have been to County Hall where the not entirely unexpected response from Highways Department was as though they had heard nothing.

Let’s build a democracy where people get heard.
